Cat and Fiddle Great Driving Road
Great Driving Roads – Cat and Fiddle
I have driven this fantastic road many a time in a Clio 172 and 306 GTi-6, 2 of the great hot hatches of all time. So I can confidently comment on the road and the fun which can be had there.

The Cat and Fiddle road runs along the A537 located between Macclesfield and Buxton. It has long been used by motorcycles and car enthusiasts and has such become one of the most dangerous roads in the UK. It is used by heavy goods vehicles, commuter traffic and pedestrians which mixed with fast cars and bikes makes it extremely dangerous. However, find a stretch that is quiet and empty and you can have an absolute riot!
The road has such an ecliptic mix of off camber tight corners, sweeping bends and fast straights that its much like driving on the Nurburgring but with the mix of traffic to add danger. The road starts off in tight twisting corners with shear drops along one side, then opens up into a few much quicker corners before really opening up as you pass the Cat and Fiddle pub. After that the bends become tight and twisty again with many series of bends and off camber corners to deal with. Enter any of these to quickly and you can find yourselve in a lot of trouble.
